Welcome to University of Central Florida's SACS Accreditation Reaffirmation website.
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) is the regional body for the accreditation of higher education institutions in the southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia) and Latin America awarding associate, baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degrees.
UCF was initially accredited by SACS in 1970. Its accreditation status has been reviewed every ten years with the most recent review having been completed in 1995. A new component of the accreditation process is the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP is now required by Core Requirement 2.12 as part of the reaffirmation of accreditation by SACS. The development of the QEP is an opportunity for the institution to enhance overall institutional quality and effectiveness by focusing on an issue or issues the institution considers important to improving student learning.
As a five-year project, the QEP should represent a new endeavor for the university and not be something that has been or is nearly accomplished. It is essential that the QEP have broad-based university input in the selection of the topic and be accepted by the university community as having important value for the university in enhancing student learning.
For planning purposes, UCF should have a completed QEP ready for submission to SACS no later than January 2, 2006. Upon SACS approval of the QEP, implementation should begin as early as July 2006. (Please see Background and Timeline for more detailed information.)
